Holiday Tech Gift Guide: Know What to Buy

This is the time of year to get the best deals on the latest tech. But in order to do that, you have to know what your options are. From marginal upgrades to major breakthroughs, the gadgets we use are advancing in their technological capabilities with each year and each iteration.

That’s why it’s so exciting to go shopping for new tech. There’s always the chance that some features can make daily life easier and more enjoyable.

We’ve put together a list of some of the best gift options on the market. Here’s our tech gift guide for the winter season 2023/2024.

iPhone 15 or 14

There’s not a whole lot that can be said that hasn’t been said already about iPhones. They deserve to be at the top of any tech gift guide. Whether it’s the iPhone 15 Pro Max model, or all the way down to the much more affordable iPhone 14 base model, the user experience is nothing short of excellent.

Apple products are known for good build quality, which provides longevity, and durability. This of course applies to MacBooks as well. With MacBooks however, Windows users have quite a bit to gripe about in terms of compatibility. With iPhones on the other hand, they do just about everything a phone should very smoothly.

An E-Reader

For any of your loved ones who don’t already have an e-reader, it’s an excellent tool that everyone should have. You can fit hundreds or even thousands of books, graphic novels, or comic books in one place. The convenience of that simply can’t be overstated.

Plus, there are many books that you can actually download for free legally online, such as classics like Moby Dick.

The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2021) is considered by many people to be the current best option available, but the smaller and cheaper Amazon Kindle (2022) would certainly suffice. Alternatively, Onyx Boox and Kobo are two other very good e-reader brands with affordable baseline models.

Apple AirTag

For people who always seem to misplace their keys, wallet, or purse, the Apple AirTag is the perfect gift. It’s a small metallic sensor that you can clip onto your keychain, slip into your wallet, or leave inside your bag. This sensor will then allow you to locate it using your phone.

This inexpensive gift has a 400 ft range, which is great for around the house, office, or even at school. But it’s not like a GPS tracker which uses satellites to provide location information, so keep that in mind.

A Portable Projector

Projectors have come a long way. Now, there are even pocket sized projectors that can be used to project a giant image on any white wall or a hung up sheet.

The Samsung Freestyle 2 is a small yet powerful option that can fit easily into a bag or backpack, but packs a punch. If you have a loved one who would love to have their own home cinema, and even be able to bring it to friends’ houses, it would be a really cool gift.

A MagSafe Charger

If you know someone who could use a charger upgrade, a MagSafe charger is a great idea. Apple’s proprietary MagSafe line has the best compatibility with Apple devices. But there are third-party options that are cheaper and in many ways just as good.

Ray-Ban Meta Smart Sunglasses

These stylish sunglasses actually include two cameras and Bluetooth speakers. They’re the next generation from the Ray-Ban Stories model. This time, they’ve included live streaming capability.

They’re water resistant, so they’re ideal for beach trips and backpacking journeys. The cameras are noticeable however, so it’s not like no one will notice that you’re wearing smart glasses. Nonetheless, it’s a really neat gift idea for the holiday season.
